A must have |
To be totally honest I bought this product because I thought it looked nifty and would impress my work mates (which it did and still does). However, two minutes after opening the box the keyboard was installed and working like a dream. No messy installation, just pop in the disk, install the 25K software and sync the Palm, all done. The keyboard feels great to type on, like a high quality laptop and it beats the wrist ache I (and others) get from writing in graffiti all the time. It looks great and works pretty much perfectly, although I wasnt too impressed with some of the shortcut keys, they do the job but they cant operate the menus, a small price to pay as I just keep my stylus handy anyway. Since Ive had this I practically never use my laptop on the move because my Palm can do pretty much everything I need my laptop to do and is much smaller and easier to carry (i dont have to wait for it to boot either just to type up a document) In conclusion Id say if you have a Palm this is a must have, its certainly money well spent and Id be pretty much lost without it now.

No more Grafitti (yippee!) |

Definitely not an accessory for the casual user. If all you use your Palm for on the go is jotting down quick notes, and you have regular access to your desktop computer, you dont really need this. But this unit really comes into its own for people who are going to be travelling a lot. The Palm itself plus this keyboard take up substantially less space than a conventional laptop, but with a couple of appropriate applications loaded onto it, it can do just about anything you could need it to. Perfect for if you need to enter more than a few lines of text and you cant get to your computer (after all, you cant write for more than about ten minutes with the stylus before your hand starts to cramp up.) It might seem a bit steep, but think of it this way; if you buy the Palm itself and this keyboard, then youve basically got yourself a micro-laptop computer..

Nice gadget... makes the Palm more practical |

For those who dont like frantically tapping and scratching out graffiti characters, the foldout keyboard is a Godsend. Of course, youre reducing the portability of the unit a little... With the stylus alone, you can work from your seat on a train, with no table top available. If you want to use a keyboard regularly, consider a small laptop or a Psion as an alternative... Apple made a lightweight keyboard for the Newton, though, so this piece of kit has a good ancestry. A shame the Palm equivalent requires a software installation to operate - that was sloppy. (Expect battery life to suffer when using the keyboard, but with rechargeable batteries, it neednt cost the Earth to use.) All in all, three and a half stars. Uh, what the hell... four.
